Wood Fiber Roofing Panels

Lowcountry Roofing: Quality Goose Creek Roofers

Wood fiber panels are a substitute for wooden shakes or shingles. They come in rectangles of 12 x 18 inches and are pre cut with grooves and shadow lines to make them look like regular wood shingles. They are faster for Goose Creek roofing companies to install than conventional shingles, and after exposure to the weather for a few months, their color is much like the silvery color of regular cedar shingles.

Wood fiber panels can be used on any structure with a roof that has a slope of at least 4 to 12 inches. They are put on the roof lengthwise with a lap joint, where two panels meet in the same course, and a shiplap joint, where two panels of different courses meet. They can be applied over existing roofing provided that doing so does not add too much weight to the roof, but it is safer to apply them directly to roof sheathing.

Two layers of 30 pound felt needs to be laid on the decking as the first step in the process of applying wood fiber panels to a roof. Then, a drip edge is attached to the eaves. A 2.5 inch starter strip cut from the panels is used at the eaves on top of the drip edge. The panels should be cut with a circular saw that has a plywood blade.

As far as fasteners go, 11 gauge nails that penetrate ¾ of an inch into the sheathing can be used or 16 inch staples that penetrate an inch.
